Speaking Math is a math tutoring program offered solely in English for students in JK – Grade 8. The subject matter is based on the Ontario curriculum for each grade, which can be adapted to any specific requirements your school may have.

On the first day of school, each student will complete an evaluation to determine their mathematic needs. Each student will then receive a personalized tutoring plan depending on their needs as well as their personal interest or passion in the subject.

Course Overview:

  • Group lesson for 2-4 students (grouped by experience), presented by the instructor
  • One-on-one explanation of concepts and examples for deeper understanding, provided by assistant instructors as well as volunteers with university-level math experience
  • Independent work during class, to allow students to practice the material in a supportive setting
Homework, to solidify concepts over time
  • Instructor is available after class to provide information on each child’s progress and to allow parents to modify the tutoring plan as their child’s needs change
  • No Romanian language experience required! All courses taught in English.

Program History
Speaking Math had its inaugural year from Sept 2015-May 2016. Although the course began with only one group of students, by May 2017 the program grew to three classes! Most recently (2017-2018), the program is made up of four classes, each with their own instructor, assistant instructor, and volunteers.

Every year, many students from the program participate in the Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest with great results (over 70/90 points).
